Guido Behling

Guido Behling (born January 20, 1964 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a former German canoeist . In 1988 he took part  in the  Olympic Games for the  German Democratic Republic  and started playing for SC Magdeburg .

Career

At the 1985 World Championships in Mechelen , Belgium , he started together with Hans-Jörg Bliesener from ASK Vorwärts Potsdam in a two-man kayak over the 500 meters. In these races the two secured the silver medal behind Ian Ferguson and Paul MacDonald from New Zealand. A year later he won his second silver medal at the 1986 World Championships . Together with Hans-Jörg Bliesener, Jens Fiedler and Thomas Vaske , he took second place behind the team from Hungary in a four-person kayak over the 1,000 meters in Montreal .

He was nominated by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul and started together with Torsten Krentz from SC Neubrandenburg in a two-man kayak over 1,000 meters. They qualified for the final run and missed a medal there with a fifth place.

At the 1989 World Championships in Plovdiv , Bulgaria , he and Torsten Krentz, Thomas Vaske and André Wohllebe won the bronze medal in a four-person kayak over the 1,000 meters behind the teams from Hungary and Poland.
