André Wohllebe

André Wohllebe (born January 8, 1962 in Berlin ; † December 29, 2014 ) was a German canoeist .

The canoe racers of SC Berlin-Grünau was at the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992 Olympic champion in four-man kayak (with Mario Von Appen , Oliver Kegel , Thomas Reineck m) over 1000, and at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 bronze medalist in the one-kayak over 1000 m and in a four-person kayak (with Kay Bluhm , Hans-Jörg Bliesener and Andreas Stähle ) over 1000 m. For his sporting success he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit several times in the GDR .

In 1983 he was world champion in two-person kayaks over 500 m and over 1000 m and in 1985 and 1986 world champion in four-person kayaks over 500 m. In 1981 he became vice world champion in four-person kayaks over 1000 m and in 1986 vice world champion in two-person kayaks over 1000 m.

After the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​he received the silver laurel leaf for winning the gold medal in a four-person kayak on June 23, 1993.

In 1996 he ended his career. Later he owned a canoe trading business together with Frank Fischer . He died of pancreatic cancer on December 29, 2014 after a brief, serious illness.
