Torsten Rossmann (geoscientist)

Torsten Rossmann (born June 8, 1966 in Jugenheim ) is a German geoscientist .

Life

Rossmann studied mechanical engineering, biology and geosciences in Darmstadt and received his doctorate in 1996 from the University of Mainz . After working in Tübingen , Halle (Saale) and Bristol , he headed the Bionics Center at the University of Darmstadt . In 2008 he published a handbook on bionics together with Cameron Tropea . Furthermore, he published several articles for the Studiengemeinschaft Wort und Wissen eV , an association of Christians from predominantly scientific professions, which mainly represents the biblical doctrine of creation. Since 2005 he has been working as a ministerial official at the Hessian Ministry of Science. Rossmann lives in Darmstadt-Eberstadt and was elected to the Darmstadt city council in 2006.

Rossmann resigned his mandate in February 2012 after more than 23,000 stolen antiquarian documents from library holdings and 1,000 fossils stolen from museums were seized in his house, including books from the Princely Waldeckische Hofbibliothek in Bad Arolsen . The total value of the stolen goods was estimated at several million euros.

In June 2015 he was sentenced to 11 months suspended prison sentence and a fine of 5,000 euros by the Korbach District Court without an oral hearing . A medical expert had previously declared him incapable of standing.
