Torsten Theel

Torsten Theel (born May 14, 1959 in Leipzig ) is a German metal designer based in Berlin.

Live and act

In the tradition of Fritz Kühn's blacksmithing school , he studied in the Achim Kühn studio since 1975. As a journeyman, he worked here on the large sculpture of the Apollo group in the Berliner Schauspielhaus. A work stay in 1979 with the Czech blacksmith and metal designer Leopold Habermann prompted him to create his own.

He passed the master craftsman's examination in 1982 with his work "Die Gerechtigkeit" (Justice), which was written in copper and can be seen in the Berlin Cathedral . He restored the four meter high sculptures Die Mäßigung , Die Weisheit and also the wreath of angels in the Berlin Cathedral. In the same year he joined the College of Fine Arts. He began with the execution of the wall design for the Savior Congregation in Potsdam. Later, forged one-offs such as the freely driven, approximately eight-meter-long sculpture The Dragon for the special building project in Berlin 1985 .

In 1990 he started in his workshop on the Dahlem domain . In 1996 he became a recognized restorer in the craft . He masters the design of all style epochs and their execution in historical techniques. In the same year, the 7.5 meter large gate system in the neo-baroque style Waldmüller gate was built at the Glienicke hunting lodge .

Torsten Theel is married and has two sons.

Services

His court forge Dahlem works for the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg and the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment in Berlin. In 2004 Theel restored the sun pavilion in the deer garden of Sanssouci and the bars of Rheinsberg Palace.

Exhibitions in the Netherlands in 2004, in Berlin in 2005 and 2011, in Phöben in 2012 as well as publications show Theels modern metal design. In 2007 it became known abroad through its publication in the Metall International yearbook . The collaboration with contemporary architects enabled the Dahlem court blacksmith to work outside of Berlin / Brandenburg . In 2007, Theel designed, manufactured and installed the lattice and facade decorations for the historic Isarufer houses in Munich's Widenmayerstraße.

Theel built sculptures with young people. So in 2004 the monument Together in Alt Ruppin and in 2011 together with the Kantgymnasium the sculpture The Demand for the Hamburger Platz in Teltow.
