Tortilia is a genus of butterflies from the family of Stathmopodidae .

features

The representatives of the genus Tortilia are small, yellowish moths, which often have a pattern consisting of brownish bands and spots on the forewings. The species resemble the representatives of the genus Stathmopoda , but they differ from these by shorter front wings and the very short cilia on the antennae of the males. The genitals of the males differ from those of the genus Stathmopoda by the more or less rectangular valves, which lack the pronounced anterodorsal extension. In females, the corpus bursae has only one sign in the front area and rows or spots of long spines in the rear area.

distribution

The genus includes about ten species that are native to arid and semi-arid climates of the Old World .

biology

The biology is known only from two representatives of the genus. Accordingly, the caterpillars live mainly in dry flowers, fruits and leaves of various plants.

Systematics

Synonyms of the genus are Diadoxastis Meyrick, 1913 and Apertodiscus Amsel, 1935. The genus Tortilia is represented in Europe with two and in the Middle East with only three species. The type species of the genus is Tortilia flavella .
