From 1895 to 1897 he worked at Edmund von Neusser's clinic and in the laboratories of Adolf Lieben and Julius Mauthner on physiological and chemical topics. From 1897 to 1905 he was assistant to Ewald Hering at the Physiological Institute of the University of Leipzig , where he qualified as a professor in 1899 .
In 1903 he went to the newly created Department of Physiology at the Zoo-Oceanographic Institute in Naples . In 1910 he was appointed Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Innsbruck and in 1912 Professor of Physiology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna . After another stay in Leipzig from 1914 to 1916, he went to the medical faculty in Ljubljana . In 1920 he was appointed to the chair of physiology at the newly established Medical Faculty of the University of Belgrade . Services
In 1927 the newly established Institute for Physiology and Histology was opened. Between 1923 and 1934 he was dean and vice dean of the medical faculty. In addition, he campaigned for the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (1936) and the Faculty of Pharmacy (1939).
The focus of his experimental work was:

- Methodology for studying the nerves and muscles of molluscs
- Contraction of injured muscles
- Function of neuromuscular synapses
- Function of the kidney and genitourinary system
- Function of biological membranes
- Swallowing physiology
