Torwood is a town in the Scottish council area of Falkirk . It is located about seven kilometers northwest of Falkirk and nine kilometers southeast of Stirling . The closest town is Larbert, three kilometers away . Torwood is directly connected to the trunk road network via the A9 .
history
In the 15th century, King James III appointed the Forrester clan to keep the royal forests of Torwood. Probably in 1566 Alexander Forrester of Garden had his seat Torwood Castle built. In 1585 the Earls of Angus and Mar took the castle. After the castle briefly fell to the Baillies in the early 17th century , it became the property of the Forresters of Corstorphine in 1653 . Today Torwood Castle is only preserved as a ruin. It is not known when Torwood Castle was abandoned. It is classified as a monument of the highest category A. A nearby Roman road and the Tappoch Broch are classified as Scheduled Monuments .
