Subject

Thematically, Dead Eyes See Life is the band's hardest work to date, with the themes of self-harm and self-mutilation found four times on the album in different variations.

So is I love pain of a man sitting with peeled skin in the bath in order to feel the pain on his bare flesh, while at Red tears to self-injury is. Since the protagonist of the song is incapable of crying, he cuts himself in his own hand in order to cry blood ("red tears") instead of tears. A similar theme can be found in The Mirror Image , here the protagonist presses himself more and more to his mirror image until the mirror breaks and the whole human body is cut up. The title also addresses the narcissus myth. The lyrical self is so captivated by its reflection that it wishes to be close to it and longs to be touched. In the hidden track Nobody Cries , the lyric self throws its hands into the fire that it had previously chopped off itself.

In the song Whispering , the first-person narrator hears a voice whispering to him and also helping in some situations. The more he communicates with his voice, the more people disappear from his environment, until at some point “Even my mother didn't wake up one day, she had left me. The whisper had it so “it becomes clear that he kills all these people himself, as the whisper tells him to do.

Murder is depicted again in With the Knowledge , this time the protagonist kills children in order to save them from possible difficulties in the future and to give them a gentle death. He names nightmares and adults that can be dangerous as parts of this possible future . Again and again he emphasizes that it is not the intention of his act to "rob the children of their dreams".

New edition

In 1998 the entire album trilogy was reissued, a completely redesigned booklet was also published and the cover was also changed. The new edition of Zeitbombe was sold.

Also has Henke there on the last pages of the booklets illustrated the band's history.

Others

  • The song I love pain reappeared in 1997 on the single “Sitz der Gnade” and in 1999 on the album “violent rights?”.
