Tove Karoline Knutsen (born January 14, 1951 in Torsken , Senja municipality ) is a Norwegian jazz singer and politician of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). For her work as a musician, she was awarded a Spellemann Prize, among other things .

Life

Knutsen studied history , Spanish and musicology at the University of Tromsø and the University of Oslo from 1975 to 1982 . From 1977 to 1985 she was a member of the group Søyr , which played world jazz , and participated in their first two albums. She also taught jazz singing at the Music Conservatory in Trondheim . In 1986 she took part in the musical Evita in the performance of the Trøndelag Theater. She later moved back to Tromsø, where she was the principal of the Tromsø Music School from 1987 to 1988. From 1997 to 2001 she was director of the festival in Northern Norway.

In the course of her career as a musician, she has released several albums as a solo artist. She released her first album Blå kveill in 1980, for the second, called Veintetid , she received a Spellemannprisen . She received the Prøysenpris, an award for people with great commitment to music or prose , together with Arvid Hanssen in 1982. In 1992 and 1994 she published the two works Tenn lampa and Lat spille med vår . From 1992 Knutsen was a member of the boards of various cultural organizations. Between 1992 and 1998 she was a member of the board of directors of the Norwegian broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) and from 2001 to 2004 part of the Norwegian Culture Council. From 2004 to 2005 she also led the initiative to bring the 2014 Winter Olympics to Tromsø.

In 2005 Knutsen first moved into the Norwegian parliament, the Storting . There she represented the constituency of Troms until 2017 , so she was re-elected twice. In the 2017 parliamentary election , she did not run again, she said she wanted to go back to music.
