The Toys2Masters band contest has been a national and non-commercial competition for young talent that has been taking place since 1995. Initially organized by the Bonner Rockmusiker Association, it has been organized by the Bonn Music Network since 2003 . Musicians of all genres who have not exceeded the average maximum age of 28 years can take part. The basic idea behind the events is to create performance and support opportunities for young musicians and to bring them into contact with one another.

history

Toys2Masters has its origins in the Bonn area, where it was founded in 1995 by the Bonner Rockmusiker Association (VBR). In 2002 the VBR had to file for bankruptcy and the music network founded in 2003 took over the task of organizer. Toys2Masters has been the largest band contest in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2003 with a wide range of visitors of all generations. Bands like The Slapstickers , Jack Slater , We Are Wolf , Leviathan (German band) or Phrasement were participants in the competition. TIL, the winning band of the 2015 competition, was brought to Universal Music .

Meanwhile, the contest also takes place. a. in Koblenz, Aachen and Cologne. and also bands and musicians from neighboring countries, e.g. B. from Belgium , Luxembourg and the Netherlands take part. After the takeover by the music network, a support program was developed for the participants, which, in addition to the performance options, includes workshops and seminars on topics such as performance, groove, self-marketing, songwriting, soundcheck and, since 2018, booking. Well-known lecturers are z. B. Florian Dauner , Shirin Valentine and Dr. Volkmar Kramarz.

Course of the contest

The Toys2Masters band contest is based on so-called levels. Every application is accepted and every act is guaranteed two concerts in the Basic and Advanced Level, in which points are collected through audience voting. Between these appearances, the participants in the first coaching level will be prepared for the second round through workshops and video coaching organized by the Rock & Pop Center Bonn . The 24 bands with the most points move into the semi-pro level after a further coaching level. From this point on, 50% of the points will be awarded by a jury, the other 50% by the audience. After further coaching and the pro level with twelve acts, the final level will take place in the Bonn Bridge Forum.

All finalists receive various prizes. The winner of the competition is entitled to a five-day stay in the recording studio, as well as various prizes and individual coaching. All participants will also reward the best instrumentalists and songwriters with musical instruments, equipment or professional recordings. The winner of the preliminary rounds will receive two days of recording in the KoelnBonn recording studio as well as the production of a music video.

The non-profit GmbH The music network is mainly financed by the cultural office of the city of Bonn . Toys2Masters is also supported by numerous regional and international partners.
