Under Control is a song by the Swedish DJ Alesso in collaboration with the Scottish producer Calvin Harris . The British synth-pop duo Hurts provided vocals and further technical support . The track was first published on October 7, 2013 in various countries in Europe and Asia.

background

Already in spring 2012 Alesso recorded a similar instrumental track with the same melody and used it for a bootleg for the song Wild Ones by Flo Rida and Sia Furler . He played this regularly on live sets, with which the remix quickly spread on the Internet. In 2013 he decided to record his own track with this instrumental. On May 15, 2013, Alesso met with Calvin Harris and Hurts, consisting of singer Theo Hutchcraft and keyboardist Adam Anderson, for the new studio recordings. At the same time, the Swede used the slightly modified instrumental for his remix for If I Lose Myself by OneRepublic .

In spring to summer 2013, the studio work on Under Control was finished. Alesso first played the song in a live performance on August 2, 2013 in Ushuaia, Ibiza. The British radio and television broadcaster BBC broadcast the concert live and then posted the video material online. This included the complete song. All rumors and recordings found their way into various blogs and video portals. At the end of his set at the V Festival on August 20, 2013, Harris also played the track. On September 18, 2013, Calvin Harris published a one-minute preview and later half the song on the Soundcloud Internet portal. The entire song was finally presented in digital form on October 4, 2013, and the dates of the iTunes single were also released. The song celebrated its radio premiere in Australia and Great Britain.

Publications

The first publication of Under Control was made for downloading and streaming on 7 October 2013 by the record label Columbia Records . The single was released as a single track and was distributed by Sony Music . On December 8, 2013, an "Extended Version" was released, which was also released as a single track. Both titles were released as a 2-track single on CD on January 3, 2014.

Music video

On September 9, 2013, Harris posted on Facebook that 1000 fans could take part in the shooting of the music video. Later, a message from Alesso and Theo Hutchcraft of Hurts was re-shared on a blog on the Twitter website . On September 10 and 11, 2013, the first filming took place in Los Angeles. The finished music video was first uploaded to Harris' Vevo on October 21, 2013 . The video shows the three musicians Alesso, Calvin Harris and Theo Hutchcraft from Hurts. Since he cannot be heard in the song either, Hurts' second member Adam Anderson cannot be seen in the video either. During the first verse, Hutchcraft can be seen in a room and in a desert. Harris and Alesso walk the streets of Los Angeles. For the refrain, the three artists are shown together on a balcony and in a limousine. The following instrumental part plays on the Sixth Street Viaduct and is a live performance. Three young women are shown driving through the desert in a car. The women's car breaks down; they get out and at that moment the limousine with the three musicians comes by. They take the three girls with them and drink, laughing and taking photos in the car. Together they step on the stage of the Sixth Street Bridge and sing the song. At the end of the track, a comet approaches Earth and the video is rewound. Arrived at the beginning, the impact on earth is shown. After just one month, the music video had ten million views.
