The place Trachsellauenen had since the 17th century a center of mining in the Lauterbrunnen Valley . Today there is an inn and the ruins of the smelting furnace.

history

The Trachsellauenen mine, Sonnen-Gnaden mine , 1790

A small industrial village with workers' houses and utility buildings for the iron mine was built near the furnace. The ruins, excavated in 1992, date from the brief heyday of silver and lead mining in the period from 1782 to 1805. In 1805, the Schmelzi was abandoned, the background of the valley was probably cleared. The silver yield was never large enough.

Several centuries earlier, Trachsellauenen as well as Gimmelwald , Amerton , Sichellauenen and Mürren were inhabited by the Walsers .
