Traders' Dreams - A Journey into the eBay World is a German documentary by Marcus Vetter and Stefan Tolz that uses five interwoven reports to examine the eBay phenomenon . The film opened in German cinemas on June 28, 2007.

content

The internet auction house eBay is successful worldwide, millions of people around the world use it every day. The film portrays some enthusiastic supporters of the eBay system from Germany, Scotland and Mexico and accompanies them for a year. In addition to the success stories, there is criticism of false promises of salvation and structures of exploitation. The film also takes a look behind the scenes of the large corporation, including at the world congress “eBay Live”, where the eBay community meets every year. Business is booming, but eBay has long been overtaken by Alibaba , a Chinese online auction house in China.

criticism

The film service judges that Traders' Dreams is “not an investigative documentary film” because critical questions are limited and the interlocutors sometimes lose themselves in redundancies. Nevertheless, "the film offers a wealth of illustrative material that makes you think".
