Marcus Attila Vetter (* 1967 in Stuttgart ) is a German documentary filmmaker , multiple Grimme Prize winner and member of the German Film Academy .

Life

Marcus Vetter is the son of a German mother and a Turkish father. After studying in Worms , Buenos Aires and Madrid (with a focus on European Business Management with a diploma in 1991), Vetter began to work as a trainee at the production company Bavaria Film in Munich and graduated in 1994 after completing a postgraduate course in media science and practice at the University of Tübingen .

From 1994 he worked as a freelance editor, author, editor and director at SDR in Stuttgart , he switched to SWR in Baden-Baden in 1998 to work as a freelance documentary writer for culture and society. Since 1997 he has also realized his own film projects as a director and producer.

Vetters TV documentary Der Tunnel (1999) received the Grimme Prize. For the second time Vetter received the Grimme Prize together with Dominik Wessely for his film Where Money Grows (2000) and again for Broadway Bruchsal (2001).

In his autobiographical film documentary Mein Vater der Türke (2006), Vetter met his father again, whom he had only seen once in his life at the age of seven. In 2007, his documentary, Traders' Dreams - A Journey into the eBay World , a global report on the eBay phenomenon, hit German cinemas , made together with Stefan Tolz .

After completing his documentary film Das Herz von Jenin (2008) about the Palestinian Ismail Khatib , Vetter founded the association Cinema Jenin e. V., who has set himself the goal of rebuilding the cinema in Jenin in the West Bank , which has been closed since 1987 . From 2008 Vetter traveled regularly to Jenin in order to advance the project; at the same time he made a film about the project, which was presented in 2012. He also made the SWR documentary Hunger (2009). In The Court (2013) he portrayed the International Criminal Court in The Hague and its chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo . In The Forecaster (2015) he and Karin Steinberger documented the career of Martin A. Armstrong , who developed a computer model for predicting turning points in the global economy in the early 1980s.
