The black thrush ( Turdus albicollis ) is a songbird from the thrush family (Turdidae). It is not one of the endangered species .
description
The dark gray bird has a black beak , a yellow iris ring and light gray chest plumage. It grows up to 26 cm and weighs between 40 and 75 g.
habitat
The black thrush is native to South America, namely in Colombia , Venezuela , Brazil , northern Argentina, as well as Trinidad , Tobago and Peru .
Subspecies
7 subspecies have been described:
- T. a. phaeopygoides Seebohm , 1881: in north-eastern Colombia , in northern Venezuela , Trinidad and Tobago .
- T. a. phaeopygus Cabanis , 1849: from eastern Colombia across all of Guiana to northern Brazil .
- T. a. spodiolaemus von Berlepsch & Stolzmann , 1896: from eastern Ecuador to western Brazil and northern Bolivia .
- T. a. contemptus Hellmayr , 1902: southern Bolivia
- T. a. crotopezus Lichtenstein, MHK , 1823: eastern Brazil
- T. a. albicollis Vieillot , 1818: southeastern Brazil and northern Uruguay .
- T. a. paraguayensis ( Chubb, C , 1910): southwestern Brazil, Paraguay, and northern Argentina .
nutrition
The black thrush feeds mainly on fruits and berries, but also on worms and insects .
Habitat
The natural habitat of this thrush is the rainforest ( Mata Atlântica and Amazon rainforest ).
