The Trave-Gymnasium in Lübeck was founded in 1970 as a branch of the Thomas Mann School in Lübeck-Kücknitz and has been an independent school since 1973.

history

As a branch of the Thomas-Mann-Schule, the Trave-Gymnasium was a guest in the elementary and secondary school on Kirchplatz and the Realschule on Haferkoppel. In 1973 the school became independent as “Gymnasium iE” (“in the making”). For this reason, a new building was built between Mühlbachtal and Kücknitzer Hauptstraße as a school center for grammar school and secondary school. The school was named in 1978. The first grammar school to be introduced in 1990 was a five-day week.

The years between 1998 and 2000 were dominated by a fight against the conversion of the Trave school center into a comprehensive school . In 1999 the school organized a strike that hit the media across Germany. Ultimately, the conversion could be prevented.

In 2008 the citizens of Lübeck decided to keep the Trave-Gymnasium.

In 2006 the Trave-Gymnasium was assessed by the EVIT-Schul-TÜV.
