The Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium is a modern language and mathematical-scientific high school in the St. Lorenz Nord district of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck . The grammar school was founded in 1957. The Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium is a UNESCO project school and a training school for young teachers.
Naming
The grammar school is named after the Swiss diplomat, essayist and historian Carl Jacob Burckhardt (1891–1974), who was made an honorary citizen of the city of Lübeck in 1950 as President of the International Committee of the Red Cross . Burckhardt attended the school twice, on June 6, 1959 and October 20, 1965.
Jubilee 2007
A portrait of Carl Jacob Burckhardt was unveiled at the ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the school on July 6, 2007. On this occasion, a grandson of the namesake, the Swiss Jean-Vital de Muralt, came to Lübeck.
As part of the anniversary year, the school yard was redesigned in September 2007 with the help of parents, teachers and students. Relaxation and rest zones as well as various active areas (climbing frames, basketball field, soccer field with border) have been created in the schoolyard.
Location and facilities
Since the school yard was redesigned in 2007, the grammar school, which is mostly in the countryside, has had an attractive school yard with lots of seating and play facilities. There is a sports field and a swimming pool in the immediate vicinity of the school. The school has a cafeteria with a private tenant, modern science rooms and external classrooms for the fifth grade, which were newly built in 2006. There are also two computer rooms in the school where lessons take place and a computer room for students that can be used during breaks and free periods. The Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium also has an auditorium in which plays are performed and other events take place. A cafeteria was also built.
Special forms of teaching and projects:
The school runs special string and wind classes for the fifth and sixth graders in which a string or wind instrument is learned. It also has a big band, a theater group, two orchestras, a choir and a school newspaper. International relationships are cultivated through exchange. At the Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium, computer training is compulsory. Pupils also have the option of obtaining a computer certificate and a computer certificate for administrators from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry . For years the school supported the street children project AMANECER in Cochabamba ( Bolivia ) through the Advent bazaar , now a large part of the income goes to the HOKISA (Homes for Kids in South Africa) project in Cape Town , which helps children and young people affected by AIDS.
