Christoph Strehl (born April 8, 1968 in Lübeck ) is a German singer with a tenor voice .

Life

Christoph Strehl grew up in Lübeck and attended the Carl-Jacob-Burckhardt-Gymnasium , where Barbara Grusnick, the wife of Bruno Grusnick , discovered and promoted his talent. After studying singing in Berlin at the Hochschule der Künste and at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen with Soto Papulkas, he made his debut at the Stadt theater Hagen in 1995 . After permanent engagements at the Landestheater Coburg and the Theater Hof , he came to the National Theater Mannheim as a lyric tenor under Ádám Fischer , followed by a nine-year engagement at the Zurich Opera House under the direction of Alexander Pereira . Most recently, Jens-Daniel Herzog brought him to the Dortmund Opera as a member of the ensemble .

Since his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2003 as Don Ottavio under Nikolaus Harnoncourt , he has performed mainly as a Mozart tenor a. a. at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, in Vienna and London, at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, in Aix-en-Provence, Geneva, Barcelona and Amsterdam. In 2005 he sang Tamino in the recording of The Magic Flute under Claudio Abbado . In 2009 he sang in Haydn Hall in the Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of Joseph Haydn the tenor in " The Creation " alongside Annette Dasch (soprano) and Thomas Quasthoff (bass-baritone) with the Austro Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic Orchestra under Adam Fischer and the Vienna Chamber Choir under Michael Grohotolsky.

Christoph Strehl teaches as a professor for singing at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He is married and has a daughter.
