Trebnitz Bridge

Trebnitzer Brücke (n) or Trzebnicaer Brücke (n) ( Polish mosty Trzebnickie , after the city of Trzebnica / Trebnitz), formerly Rosent (h) aler Brücke , is a bridge over the Old Oder , the city canal and the large shipping canal in Wroclaw .

history

The location of the bridge coincides with an old ford which , according to archaeological finds, has been known since the Bronze Age .

In the 19th century, a wooden bridge was built between the Wroclaw Odervorstadt and the village of Rosenthal (today's Wroclaw district of Różanka ) over the Alte Oder, which was called the Rosenthal Bridge . When the city canal was built to the left or south of the Alte Oder as part of the construction work for the new city port facilities from 1892–1897, it was bridged as an extension of the Rosenthaler Bridge by means of a single-yoke girder bridge made of steel (or iron according to the language at the time ). This southern Rosentaler Brücke (as it was spelled after the spelling reform of 1901 ) soon proved to be too low, so that it was replaced by a new building with steel trusses from 1904–1905.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the city canal, built a few years ago, became a bottleneck for inland shipping , so that a new large shipping route was tackled. In the area of the northern Rosentaler Bridge, the Rosental Canal was to be created to the right or north of the Alte Oder. Due to the required clearance and the old age, the entire old wooden Rosentaler Brücke Nord was replaced by a steel bridge a few meters downstream. The new bridge designed by Günther Trauer , which spanned both the Alte Oder and the Rosental Canal, was opened in 1916. In the 1930s, tram tracks were laid across the Rosentaler Brücke bridge .

The bridges survived the Second World War undamaged. In 1945 the bridges were renamed most Trzebnicki Północny (north bridge from 1916) and most Trzebnicki Południowy (south bridge from 1905) in Polish . On June 15, 1976, both bridges were added to the list of individual architectural monuments . In the 1980s they were renovated and the roadways were fundamentally rebuilt, a renewed renovation took place in 1992 and in the 2000s.

description

The northern Trebnitz Bridge has four openings of 52 m each, the northern one spanning the Rosental Canal ( Kanał Różanka in Poland ), the two middle ones over the Old Oder ( Stara Odra in Poland ) and the southern one over the dyke foreland. The only 7.5 m wide carriageway with two tram tracks lies between the pairs of steel arches at the height of the center of the arch. The 2.25 m wide sidewalks are on the outside of the arches. The steel box arches are designed as two-hinged arches . The stiffening in the transverse direction could be secured thanks to the considerable width of the arch boxes without wind bracing . The arches are supported on concrete pillars lined with granite below the carriageway , which gives the bridge an unmistakable silhouette.

The axis of the southern bridge does not coincide with the northern bridge, so there is a road curve on the dike between the Old Oder and the city canal ( Kanał Miejski in Polish ). The one-yoke southern bridge has two riveted parallel- chord trusses with the roadway at the level of the lower chord and sidewalks on the outside as well. The cast iron railings are decorated with geometric motifs. The bridgeheads are clad with bush-hammered granite slabs.

Individual evidence

  1. Since these are two separate and spatially separated constructions, in official usage, e.g. B. in the architectural monument register, there is talk of bridges in the plural form ( mosty ). In everyday life is a bridge ( most spoken) even if the entire bridge section is meant.
