Tremês is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Santarém . 1963 inhabitants live in it (as of June 30, 2011).

location

The community is embedded in a valley on the Tagus River , 16 km north of the district town of Santarém , on the Autoestrada A1 , which connects the town with the town of Alverca do Ribatejo, 67 km south, with the seaport and Alverca airport (ICAO code: LPAR) connects.

history

The place was founded in the 13th century. Until 1855 it belonged to the former district town of Alcanede . After the administrative reform of early liberalism, Tremês was incorporated into the Santarém district.

economy

The main economic activity is agriculture, through the production and export of olive oil, wine, wheat, corn, barley, chickpeas and beans.

The occurrence of clay in the early nineteenth century gave rise to companies for the manufacture of ceramic products such as bricks , stoneware and special sizes for the refractory industry.
