Trifolium sect. Mistyllus is a section in the genus clover ( Trifolium ). It contains nine species from Europe and Africa. Due to the structure of the symmetrical, bubble-shaped calyx and the permanent crown, which is unique for Klee, it is clearly differentiated from the other sections of the genus.

description

Types of the section Mistyllus are annual hairless herbaceous plants . The inflorescences are only apparently terminal and are in clumps. The single flowers are sessile or almost sessile.

Bracts are available. They are nervous and big. The cup is 20 or more annoying. It widens more or less like bubbles during the ripening of the fruit. The calyx tube is not closed. The individual petals of the butterfly flower are almost identical. They are nailed and remain dry after the fruit ripens. The legumes are sessile, two to four seeds and long beaked. They are completely enclosed in the chalice.

distribution

Six species of clover in the Mistyllus section are found in the Mediterranean, three in Alpine Africa.

Systematics

The type species of the section is Trifolium spumosum . The section is clearly distinguished from all other sections of the genre. There is only a certain similarity to the Physosemium subsection of the Involucrarium section . The clear bracts and many-seeded pods also suggest a certain proximity to the lotoid section . The section is considered to be one of the most evolutionarily primitive of the genus. It probably originated in Africa.

The species of the section Mistyllus and their assignment according to Michael Zohary and David Heller are:
