history

The foundation

In December 2012, the West Indies Cricket Board announced the establishment of a franchise based Twenty20 league. Shortly afterwards, in the spring of 2013, the venues where the franchises should be based were determined, including in Trinidad and Tobago. At the first draft in June 2013, the team received 15 players like any other, with Dwayne Bravo being the team's star player. As overseas players, Ross Taylor , Aaron Finch and Kevin O'Brien were signed . The team name was also set that month with Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel . Dwayne Brave was appointed as the first captain .

2013 season

The team lost the first three games and then won the next three. With a game ratio of three wins and four defeats, the team qualified fourth in the group for the semifinals. There they met the group first Guyana Amazon Warriors , against whom they were eliminated with a 7 wicket loss. The team's best batsman and bowler was Dwayne Bravo.

2014 season

In the second season, the team was able to keep its most important players in the draft. There was a problem with the team's name during the season as the Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Sports did not want the national name to be used in the team name. This could be solved after negotiations of the CPL in the middle of the season. The start of the season was more balanced this time and so they moved into the quarter-finals as third with six wins and three defeats. There they met the Jamaica Tallawahs and were eliminated with a 4 wicket loss. Best batsman of the season was Evin Lewis , best bowler Kevon Cooper .

2015 season

At the beginning of the season, it was announced that the owners of the Kolkata Knight Riders had acquired a stake in the franchise. The season was balanced at first, so that after the group stage with five wins, four losses and one no result, they finished third again. There you played in the quarterfinals against the Jamaica Tallawahs, where you won with 27 runs. In the semi-finals, Guyana Amazon Warriors was the opponent against whom they had lost in the last group game. Nevertheless, a victory with 6 wickets and thus the final. In the final you faced the defending champion Barbados Tridents . The team was able to prevail there with 20 runs and so the team won the first CPL title. The team's best batsman was Jacques Kallis , best bowler Dwayne Bravo, who was also the best bowler of the tournament with 28 wickets that season.
