The Guyana Amazon Warriors is a T20 cricket team that plays for Guyana in the Caribbean Premier League . The team was founded in 2013. The home stadium is Providence Stadium in Georgetown . The Warriors have not yet won the Caribbean Premier League, but have made it to the finals five times.

history

The foundation

After the West Indies Cricket Board announced the founding of the league in December 2012 , the venues for the franchises were named in February 2013. One was given to Guyana. The main player assigned to Guyana in the first draft in June 2013 was Sunil Narine . Mohammad Hafeez and Martin Guptill were signed as overseas players . Guyana Amazon Warriors was chosen as the team name . Ramnaresh Sarwan was chosen as the captain of the team .

2013 season

In the season, the team managed to take first place in the group stage with a record of five wins and two defeats. In the last games, instead of Mohammad Hafeez, the Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga was available to the team, as Hafeez was released for the national team . Also after Martin Guptill was injured, he was replaced by Tillakaratne Dilshan . In the semifinals they played against the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel , against which they won with 7 wickets. In the final they were then defeated by the Jamaica Tallawahs with 7 wickets. The team's most successful batsman was Lendl Simmons , and the most successful bowler who also scored the most wickets this CPL season was Krishmar Santokie .

2014 season

In the draft for the new season, Corey Anderson was signed as a new international player . However, this withdrew shortly before the start of the season and was replaced by Jimmy Neesham . In the group stage they finished second with six wins and three defeats and once again qualified for the semi-finals. Sunil Narine became the first player to score a wicket maiden super over in T20 format in the game against Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel . As in the previous year, they met Jamaica Tallawah in the semi-finals, which they defeated this time with 10 wickets. In the final they played against the Barbados Tridents and lost with 8 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis Method . The team and CPL's best batsman of the season was Lendl Simmons, and best bowler Krishmar Santokie.

2015 season

Before the season, the team managed to sign Umar Akmal . In the group stage they finished second again with five wins, four defeats and one no result and were thus in the semi-finals. There they were defeated by the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel with 6 wickets. The season's best batsman was Lendl Simmons, and Sunil Narine was the best bowler.
