Trine Rein (born November 7, 1970 in San Francisco ) is a Norwegian - American pop singer .

Life

Trine Rein was born in California in 1970, but moved to Nesodden in Norway with her mother when she was just one year old . There she grew up and gained her first experiences as a singer. Together with keyboardist Aasgeir Knutsen, at the age of 15, she founded the duo The Sound of Silence , which took second place in a local Nesodden talent show. Shortly thereafter, she went to California, where she graduated from Antioch High School . She later returned to Norway and made a living as a studio singer with radio commercials, jingles and performances by the cover band Saturn . In 1991 she joined the Norwegian Eurodance project WIP (World in Peace), for which she temporarily stood in as a singer. In the same year the band released the album The Songs We Write and the single Ghost Jam , which reached number 9 on the Norwegian charts.

Thanks to the success of WIP, Trine Rein also became known and was able to sign a solo contract with EMI Records in Norway. Her debut album Finders, Keepers was released in October 1993 . It became a number one hit in Norway and sold over 200,000 copies. The album was also a success in Japan. The single Just missed the train , which was released from it in January 2014 , reached number 4 in the Norwegian charts. Rein received the Norwegian music award Spellemannprisen as Best Newcomer 1993 for the album Finders, Keepers .

After a manager change, Rein signed with the EMI Medley Denmark label and began working with the Danish producer Poul Bruun. In 1996 their second album Beneath My Skin was released , which also reached the top position in the Norwegian charts. More than 300,000 units were sold. The single Torn , a cover of the Ednaswap song of the same name released in 1993, reached number 10 in Norway. The following year, a similar version of the song, sung by Natalie Imbruglia , became a world hit.

From 1997 to 2000 Trine Rein lived and worked mainly in Los Angeles , where large parts of her third album To Find the Truth was created, which was released in 1998. Despite chart placement and 100,000 records sold, it could not quite build on the success of their first two albums. This was followed by five years in which Rein hardly made any appearances as a professional musician. For a while she lived with her father in San Francisco , then again in Los Angeles. Rein, who has both Norwegian and US citizenship, worked as a chauffeur and VIP attendant during these years to earn a living.

In 2004 Trine Rein returned to Norway and became a permanent member of the ensemble of the stage show 80-tallet Beat for Bit for two years , which also included Torhild Sivertsen, Tom Sterri and Sturla Berg-Johansen. The show was successfully performed in Tønsberg and later Oslo . This enabled Rein to regain a foothold in the music business. More shows followed. The compilation The Very Best of Trine Rein (2004) was released by EMI . Rein took part in the Melodi Grand Prix 2006 , the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , and reached the final, where Christine Guldbrandsen prevailed. In 2007 Rein, accompanied by Andreas Ljones on the violin, made it to the finals of the Melodi Grand Prix.

In September 2010, after almost twelve years, Rein released a new studio album, Seeds of Joy . It was created in the White Room Studio in Asker , in collaboration with Bernt Rune Stray, Bjørn Erik Pedersen and Hans Petter Aaserud. In addition to two cover songs, the album contained nine new Pop / Nashville songs. It reached number 19 on the Norwegian charts. In 2011 the album Julegaven followed with Norwegian and English-language Christmas pop songs.

Rein's partner has been the Norwegian journalist and adventurer Lars Monsen (* 1963) since 2008.
