Trinidad is a city in Las Animas County in the US state of Colorado , United States , with 9,100 inhabitants (as of 2010) and the seat of the county administration. The area of ​​the city is 16.3 km².

Trinidad gained some fame as a sex reassignment center in the US through doctors Stanley Biber and Marci Bowers .

Demographics

The United States Census 2000 counted 9078 inhabitants in 3701 households and 2335 families in Trinidad. The population density was 555.5 inhabitants / km². The number of residential units was 4126, which corresponds to a density of 252.5 apartments / km².

The median age was 39 years. For every 100 women there were 92.5 men; For every 100 women over 18, there were 89.8 men.

The median income per household was US $ 36,681 . The men had an average income of US $ 27,817 versus US $ 19,064 for women. The per capita income was US $ 17,271. About 16.2% of families and 18.3% of the population are below the poverty line ; this affected 19.6% of those under 18 years of age and 20.0% of those aged 65 or older.

POW camp Camp Trinidad

From 1943 to 1946, about five miles east of Trinidad in Cougar Canyon, there was a camp for German prisoner-of-war officers from World War II . Among the prisoners were Hans-Oskar Wilde , Rüdiger von Wechmar , Joseph Blank, Walther Killy and Harald Deilmann .
