Triuridopsis peruviana is a mykoheterotrophic , leaf-green-free plant species and the only species of its genus fromthe Triuridaceae family . The species was first described in 1994.

description

Triuridopsis peruviana is an unbranched, herbaceous plant and completely white, it reaches a height of 8 to 10 centimeters. The rhizome, which is over 5 centimeters long, is cylindrical, at each node there are two cylindrical roots and a triangular-egg-shaped, pointed scaly leaf , the latter is 0.5 to 1.5 millimeters long and wide. The up to 25 centimeters long, bald roots are of endogenous origin and grow through the scale leaf. Per stem there are one or two scale-like, ovate-triangular to broadly ovate-triangular leaves that are 0.5 to 2 millimeters long and 1 to 1.5 millimeters wide.

The species is dioecious ( dioecious ). The inflorescence is a one to twelve-flowered raceme , up to 2 inches long and 1 cm wide, the flowers have a diameter of 3.5 to 4 millimeters. Immediately in front of a sepal is a 1.5 to 2 millimeter long and 0.8 to 1.8 millimeter wide bract , the 3 to 6 millimeter long flower stalks are upright, in male plants they are bent back. The three, rarely four, triangular bracts are 1.8 to 2 millimeters long and 1.2 to 1.4 millimeters wide and open to bent back, fused together over 0.2 to 0.4 millimeters at the base, with upturned edges and one 1.4 to 2.5 millimeter long appendage just before the tip of the bract, which is perpendicular to the inner surface. Of the six, rarely eight stamens , two are in front of each bloom, the 0.3 millimeter long and 0.2 millimeter wide anthers have only one theca, open with a longitudinal slit and are bent up at the edge of the slit. The 0.6 millimeter long stamens have grown together at the base. The 150 to 200 carpels are non-growing, the ovary ovoid, 0.6 to 0.7 millimeters long and 0.4 millimeters wide. The 0.5 to 0.6 millimeter long stylus is pointed, the area of the scar cannot be clearly defined. The fruit is a pale yellow, egg-shaped achenes , 0.5 to 1 millimeter long and 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters wide. The seeds are elliptical and around 0.5 millimeters long and 0.3 millimeters wide.

distribution

The species is only known from the two locations of the types that were collected in Peru near the Amazon . The plants grew there in the tropical rainforest on hilly ground with isolated clearings. They were found in large groups and grew together in one place with Thismia panamensis and Gymnosiphon divaricatus .
