Truth Decay -

Truth Decay is the ninth studio album by the American band Hypnogaja . It was produced by Union State Records and released on June 30, 2009. It is the band's first concept album and contains 14 tracks (15 on the limited edition).

Emergence

Mark Nubar Donikian explains in an interview with AOL Noisecreep that the futuristic sounds and themes in some of the songs are the result of the band's preference for the SF genre . Every band member collects SF comics, according to Donikian. In addition, the rock music of the 1980s played a major role in the melody of the songs, especially interpreters like Blondie or the band Queen have done the band. The song Worship Me (I'm On TV) is about reality shows, according to Donikian. He also reveals that he likes to watch such shows, but is still critical of such programs. Regarding the content, he said that the characters experience a journey through time in every song.

Subject

The album Truth Decay is the first concept album by the American melodic hard rock band Hypnogaja. The theme of the 14 songs from the album is the basic story of the dramatic and apocalyptic end of the world, with life cycles diving into new chapters. The album also contains the song Welcome To The Future , which Richard Dodd of The Section Quartet will accompany on the cello .

action

In broad daylight, a researcher notices a dark star in the sky, which he examines immediately and determines that this star is unstable. As he examines this star for further dangers, a war for survival rages on Earth. However, the media do not let the rest of the world know about this struggle for survival, on the one hand to protect themselves and on the other to prevent mass hysteria. Suddenly all people die in an unnatural way; the only person spared from fate is the researcher. When he returns from his mission, he notices that he is the last person alive and goes in search of possible survivors. The world he once lived in no longer exists. The sky changes color from purple to yellow and a huge rust-colored moon adorns the sky. He finds the corpse of his love ( Lucy ) and falls into a depression and gives up hope of finding people who are still alive. The story ends with the destruction of the earth by the Dark Star , who in the meantime has reached its final stage and exploded.

promotion

As a promotion, the band made a song from the new album available for free download on their homepage thirteen weeks before the official release, but it could only be downloaded by registered fans. The individual songs can also be downloaded from the American and German versions of Amazon . An official trailer for the album has also been released, which can also be seen on the Internet and lasts half a minute. In the background you can hear the melody of the first track on the album "Dark Star" . A short story appeared for each song on the official homepage, which reflects its content and is completed with each new piece. The short story can also be read in the individual blogs on the band's Myspace page. The album is sold on CD Baby , iTunes and Amazon. These short stories tell the story of how the songs came about and the idea behind the individual songs.

sale

With the ability to download a new song from the album every week, the album did not sell well in the US. Presumably, interest in the CD sank, as many listeners knew the songs before the release date. Since July 19, 2009 the album has also been sold in Germany on Amazon.

Cover

The cover of the album shows a girl with a white dove in the foreground, which is supposed to represent the supposed peace. In the background on the right side of the cover you can see flames, which should represent the real situation. This means the war, which has always destroyed entire cities throughout history. The girl in the white dress represents the innocence that people have often lost, for example through murder or rape . Above all, the motif of a child was chosen as the cover image, since children are the best portrayal of innocence.

Single releases

The album came out with three larger single releases, which are called The March , Worship Me and Apocalyptic Love Song . The other songs were only released as a download. In addition to the normal song version The March, The March contains an extended version, an acoustic version and a music video. Directed by Nelson Gragg and Marius A. Markevicius, who also directed CSI: Miami , 30 Days of Night and The Last Supper .

Music videos

Two music videos were created for the album. A video for The March and the song Things Will Never Be The Same . In the latter video mentioned, part of Obama's speech began with Yes We Can . The further course of the video shows the hopes and wishes of individual American citizens. The videos can be viewed on YouTube as well as on the official homepage. A live video for the song Apocalyptic Love Song was also created. The music video for The March is also carried on the American side of MTV and can be viewed there.

Meaning of the songs

Dark Star

Dark Star describes the origin of a global catastrophe . The "dark star" is unstable and threatens to collapse. The song is played by a first-person narrator and describes the events in the universe. The song's bridge says that heaven is beginning to die.

The March

After it became known that the earth was threatened with destruction, horror broke out in the world. The government sends soldiers to the crisis areas with the pretext of stopping them. The March tells of a soldier who begins to wonder whether war is really the best solution to create peace, only to find that the government is doing nothing while the soldiers are risking their lives to restore the supposed peace . In reality, the song is supposed to allude to the wars in Iraq and the Middle East conflict between Israel and Palestine over the Gaza Strip and to indicate the serious consequences of another world war.

Apocalyptic Love Song

While the soldiers are putting their lives on a map in the war, the unsuspecting researcher who investigated the Dark Star meets with his partner. Apocalyptic Love Song is a love song that is about the two of them and reports from the professor's point of view. He already has certain premonitions about the fate of the world. Only in the last refrain does the listener find out about the professor's hopelessness. There it says that her love song will never be heard again.

Worship Me (I'm On TV)

In the meantime, the media reported an allegedly existing hope, although the situation is more dramatic than television, radio and Internet reports. The song Worship Me (I'm On TV) denounces media that control the world's population by all possible means. The refrain says that listeners, viewers and internet users should worship the media. It is also said that media can destroy people, depending on what media is consumed.

Welcome to the future

Humanity has come to terms with the fate of the end of the world. Everyone is getting ready for the future ahead. The song Welcome To The Future is narrated by an omniscient narrator who asks the people on earth whether they enjoyed their time on earth and tries to heal the world.

Things Will Never Be The Same

Things Will Never Be The Same describes a well-known saying . It will never be the same again, which means that something that has happened can never be undone. A music video was shot for the song, which is introduced by Obama's speech.

Kill The Humans

The earth is dying. And nature calls on a higher authority to kill people because they have severely damaged nature. Like Welcome To The Future, the song is played by an omniscient narrator.

Static

After all humans have been wiped out by a higher authority, the researcher returns from space and tries to process what happened while he was absent. He notices that the world is deserted. He begins looking for his partner in the hope that she is still alive. Static is told from the perspective of the researcher.

Lucy

While looking for his partner (Lucy), he realizes that all humans are dead. Desperate, he begins to wonder why he didn't alert people to the dark star ahead of time. Lucy is a song that depicts the researcher's inner monologue , in which he apologizes primarily to his partner for failing her.

Never coming back

Never Coming Back questions people. They had enough chances to change, but the song denounces that people wanted more and more and greed grew and so death was justified. The truth that people could not have been saved because it comes too late for humanity is also questioned.

Last Man On Earth

The researcher does not know if there is still someone who survived the scenario, but he senses that there must be someone who is alive. He regrets leaving the world to do further research. The song describes the suffering of a person who has abandoned all of humanity.

Rusty moon

The stars no longer shine as they did before, a rust-colored moon fills the sky, the shadows change from gray to blue depending on the time of day. As in all the other songs before, the song is told from the perspective of the researcher. He describes a picture of a destroyed world system and a "wrong" earth.

Dark Star: End Transmission

The dark star has reached its final shape and it will not be long before the world and the universe are completely destroyed.

Cellar Door

The researcher waits in the cellar for the end of the world and reminisces one last time of the old days when the earth was still in order and life still existed. He has given up looking for survivors. He made himself aware that he is the last living person on earth and that he will be the only one to experience the end of the world. This song is also played by the protagonist, the researcher.

Special

On the day of its release, the album was offered for illegal download on various sharing sites . You can also download the album via torrent . Truth Decay is also offered for download on so-called blogspot sites. In an interview with All Access Magazine , singer Jason Arnold and keyboardist Donikian said that the album was positively received by fans despite the low level of interest in the CD. In addition, the album was able to attract new fans who did not know the band before. The band said there were even inquiries from abroad. When asked how the album was being received by the music industry, Donikian replied that in addition to internet retailers , hundreds of other websites also offer the album for download, which is another way to get platinum status. He added that if you google Truth Decay with Hypnogaja , hundreds of such sites would appear, sharing the album . Together with the Hypnogaja app for IPhone , they want to achieve platinum status.

Reviews

The band's album was well received by listeners shortly after its release and received some positive reviews. Njai Joszor from examiner.com wrote that the album is like a novella , where every single song tells a story. Karen Bliss of AOL Noisecreep described the album as a story about the dramatic and apocalyptic end of the world that immersed the listener in a new life. Campus Circle adds that it is also the story of a futuristic world in which apocalypse and rebirth are looming. This review was created as a promotion for the official release party at KeyClub Los Angeles. Flavorpill wrote that the album contained a lofty composition of the bygone age of rock music and production finesse . These reviews can also be read on the official homepage.
