Below Sunset is the fifth music album by the American band Hypnogaja . It was produced by Jeeve, a guitarist in the band. Jason Arnold, the singer wrote the lyrics for this album.

Origin of name

The name Below Sunset refers to the street in Hollywood where the stars and starlets live in their luxury mansions while ordinary people live "below". In an interview on indiesolo.com Jason, the singer of Hypnogaja: "I live in Sunset right now. I live in a small apartment. We recorded the album in Jeeve's apartment. But the name Below Sunset has another meaning for me The sun shows the beauty and brightness of life, but just below there is darkness that pulls life into depression, just like how I felt during the shoot. "

Presentation

The cover, which was designed by Jeeve, shows a naked person from behind in a black and white background. It should clarify the subject matter of the individual songs. All thirteen songs (fifteen on the limited edition ) are about the true side of love and life. The cover reveals some of the song's content thanks to the choice of colors.

sale

The album sold millions of copies in the US, making it the band's most successful album. In Germany , the album is offered via the Internet mail order company Amazon.com and was sold significantly less here, as the band is rather unknown in Central Europe . It achieved gold status in the United States.

Songs

Misery , Looking Glass , They Don't Care and Here Comes The Rain Again are the best known songs on the album and the band. The song Looking Glass was written by Jason Arnold for The Looking Glass Wars series, as was They Don't Care , which was produced for a series for the New York Times . Looking Glass tells the fairy tale Alice in Wonderland . It is not customary for hard rock bands to set fairy tales to music, so the song can be counted as an exception. The songs Misery and Here Comes The Rain Again are the most famous songs on the album. The song Misery starts with a percussion solo before the electric guitars start playing later . Although the song is played with hard riffs in the bridge and chorus, the voice remains gentle. The main plot of the song is the other side of love. Someone is abandoned by his partner, whereupon he begins to wonder why the partner cannot feel his emotional pain that the abandoned person feels. Here Comes The Rain Again begins gently with a piano solo. Before the electric guitars start playing, Jason Arnold sings the bridge once. Here, too, the melody is characterized by harmonic sounds, hard guitar riffs and soft vocals. The song is about a person who is lonely and finally wants to feel like a person in love. The refrain “Here comes the rain again. Raining in my head like a memory. ” Is a metaphor that is supposed to express that the person is lonely for a long time. The rain represents the memory of the last great love. The song Normal On The Outside begins with the sentence: Do you really wanna know what's inside , which translates as “do you really want to know what's going on in me?” . It is a question that should make the listener think. The song is about the fact that the outside can be so perfect, but that it can't hide the inner values. Most of the band's songs have the same theme.
