Hypnogaja is an American rock band founded by Jason "ShyBoy" Arnold and Mark "Nubar" Donikian together with Sean "Dr." Brooks in Los Angeles in 1999 after Arnold and Donikian had previously worked together as a trip-hop combo. Leif Bunting left the band a little later and with Adrian Barnado the music got heavy guitar riffs. In their ten-year band history, Hypnogaja released a total of eight albums. The band's lyrics are about life and love, about family and social grievances or the meaning of war. The band is signed to the indie label Union State Records .

history

Hypnogaja was founded in 1999 by Jason "ShyBoy" Arnold, Mark Nubar Donikian and the singer's friend Jason Arnolds Dr. Brooks founded in Los Angeles. At first the band played with trip-hop elements, which were mixed with alternative pop elements. The band later changed their style from trip-hop to post-grunge . In 1999 Sandy Brown joined the band, who took over the female voice. In the same year the band released their debut album Revolution .

In 2000 the band was the composer for the film The Young Unknowns .

After the release, the band gave several gigs in Los Angeles, including restaurants and hard rock festivals. After Sandy Brown and Dr. Brooks left the band, guitarist Jean-Yves "Jeeve" Ducornet, bassist Leif Bunting and drummer Tim Groeschel joined the band and released their second studio album in 2002, Post-Hypnotic Stress Disorder . Some songs on the album were used as the soundtrack for the remake of the film Carrie . In 2003 Leif Bunting left the band, Groeschel became guitarist and Daniel Wills (bass) and Bill Brennenstuhl (drums) joined them. In 2003, Bridge to Nowhere , the band's third studio album, was released.

With this line-up, the band released the EP Kill Switch in 2003 and White Label Vol. 1 a year later. For White Label Vol. 1, Sandy Brown returned to the band and gave the group the female voice, although she left the group after this release. In 2005 Brennenstuhl and Wills left the band and Adrian Barnardo replaced Brennenstuhl on drums. In the same year the band released the album Below Sunset , which is arguably the band's most successful album. Since the release of this album, the band changed their style from post-grunge to melodic hard rock . In 2006 the band released their first live album, Acoustic Sunset.

A year later, the band released the album Audio from Last Night's Dream , which contains songs from previous albums . Since 2008 the band has produced the album Truth Decay , which was released on June 30, 2009. Bryan Farrar joined the band on bass for this production. Since then, the two single releases The March and Apocalyptic Love Song have been released for the album. The band has also produced a duet with the singer Sammy Allen, which is intended to promote their single I Can See into Forever . On September 22nd, 2009 the band played live at the 140th Twitter Conference where guests such as Tony Hawk , Chamillionaire , Loni Love , Alan Nusbaum , Tyrese Gibson and Hypnogajas Mark Donikian appeared as speakers for this conference. In November 2009, the band received the award for best alternative rock band at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA). They also played in September 2009 at the Sunset Strip Music Festival , which has been held since 2008. Guitarist Abe Parker joined the band in early 2010. The band is currently working on new songs for the new album, which will be released in 2011. The band supported the American rock singer Sammy Allen , who is also under contract with Union State Records . So was Jean-Yves Ducornet next label founder John Scott, the producer of her single I Can See Forever into (published in 2009 as a download single) and their debut EP Behind the Sun , which appeared of 2010. The band supported them in the song I Can See into Forever, both on their single and on the EP. In the same song Jason Arnold sang a duet with her. In order for the EP to be marketed successfully, the band offered to offer the EP as a free download on their homepage.

In January 2010, Union State Records announced the release of another single by the band. On this the band covers the famous hit On the Radio by Donna Summer . At the end of the month Jeeve announced that he would no longer be a musician in the band and instead would continue to support the band as a producer. With the new line-up, the band performed at SXSW '10 in Austin / Texas . In July, the band starred with Curt Smith of Tears for Fears in the first episode of the online series Stripped Down . The band has announced a new album for 2011. In 2010 the band was again nominated for the Hollywood Music In Media Awards. This time the band is in the category Best Male Vocal Voice for the single Welcome to the Future / On the Radio [Digital 45] . Arnold also won the award in this category.

Hypnogaja is currently participating in the Battle of the Bands. The winning bands perform on the 2011 Vans Warped Tour . Origin of their songs

Mark Nubar Donikian explains in an interview on iTunes.com how her songs are created: "Sometimes our songwriter takes over and directs the process alone. When he has a melody in his head, he first plays it a cappella . Then we either play with the piano or with the guitar . Then the song will go in its own direction before we even get to the recording. " Nubar goes on to say, "Having a" home studio "has its advantages. The band members can work on the songs when they want and see it as right and it's a lot cheaper than going to a real studio. What do we get in one right studio? It costs millions of dollars an hour and you only get a coffee maker and an assistant who brings you things you need. We prefer to do this at home or in our van. " "Some sounds, like in the song Put Your Hate on Me ," says Donikian, "can't be played live so easily. 300 choir voices were recorded with the PC for the choir that plays in the background of the song. We're only going to live live." fifth; Jason , Jeeve , two female singers and me. We wanted to incorporate this choir, which is common for the gothic scene [sic!], as a climax in this song. Jeeve gave us the part "place your hate upon me" 300 times "I will bear your burden" sing in Latin in the most varied of pitches and heights .
