The Tschagan ( Russian Чаган ) is a right tributary of the Urals in the Russian Orenburg Oblast and the Kazakh region of Western Kazakhstan .

The Tschagan rises in the hills of the Obschtschi Syrt mountain range in the Orenburg Oblast. It initially flows in a westerly direction, passes the small town of Pervomaiski , later turns south and flows into the Urals at Oral . At Oral, the Derkul joins the Tschagan from the right.

The Tschagan is mainly fed by the snowmelt . Its mean discharge 40 km above the mouth is 7.7 m³ / s. The river usually freezes in November. At the end of March / beginning of April it is ice-free again.
