The Tschandyr (in Iran : Dschergelan ) is a left tributary of the Samur in northeastern Iran and in southwestern Turkmenistan .
The Tschandyr has its source in the Kopet Dag Mountains in the Iranian province of North Khorasan . It flows in a west-northwest direction. He passes the places Baghleq and Bacheh Darreh . Later the river crosses the border with Turkmenistan. Eventually he reaches the Samur River, which flows west to the Atrak .
The Tschandyr has a length of 90 km. Its catchment area covers 1820 km². In the summer months, the Tschandyr river runs dry. The highest measured discharge on the Tschandyr was measured in 1963 and was 422 m³ / s.
Some of the river water is diverted for irrigation purposes .
