The Tschorna ( Ukrainian Чорна ; Russian Чёрная / Tschornaja ; literally "Black [river]") is a river to the Black Sea in the south of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine .
The river has a length of 34.1 km (according to other sources 41 km) and a catchment area of 436 km².
The Chorna runs entirely within the urban area of Sevastopol , which is directly subordinate to the Ukrainian central government in Kiev, and is therefore not part of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea . It rises at a height of 280 m in the village of Rodnykiwske ( Родниківське ) on the northwestern slopes of the Aj-Petri in the Crimean Mountains , then flows in a northwestern direction until it flows into the Sevastopol Bay at Inkerman .

On August 16, 1855, a battle named after the river took place on the river in the Crimean War .
