The TuS Wermelskirchen is a sports club from the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Wermelskirchen . It was founded in 1907 as the Niederwermelskirchen gymnastics and games club . In 2009 the name was changed to Turn- und Spielverein Wermelskirchen 07 . According to its own information, the association has around 950 members, to whom it offers basketball , handball , kempō karate , Nordic walking , volleyball and Zumba .
Handball
The handball players of TuS Wermelskirchen rose for the 2008/09 season in the Handball Regional League West . At the end of the 2009/10 season, TuS qualified to participate in the newly created 3rd league , in which it played until the voluntary withdrawal in 2013. In 2014, the team rose as the bottom of the table without a win from the Handball Oberliga Niederrhein .
In the seasons 1993/94 (together with TG Hilgen as HSG Hilgen / Niederwermelskirchen), 2008/09 , 2009/10 , 2010/11 and 2011/12 , the club took part in the main round of the DHB Cup . The achievement of the third round in 1993/94, in which the Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt lost 20:35, was the greatest success.
