Tuatha de Danann is a metal band from Minas Gerais in Brazil, which plays Celtic / Irish music from the field of folk metal , but also incorporates influences from power metal and sometimes the growled vocals of death metal . What is striking about the band's style is the use of flutes and quiet acoustic guitar or mandolin in various songs and the strong lyrical reference to legends from Irish / Celtic history, although these do not always have to exist in real life, but sometimes also invented or freely by the band be based on an existing legend. Due to the connection of Folk Metal with Irish and Celtic legends, the band can also be assigned to Celtic Metal . Furthermore, the type of music played sounds quite cheerful or inviting to the celebration and the covers of the albums are designed accordingly.

history

In 1995, the group "Pendragon" was formed in Varginha, Brazil. Based on an idea by Bruno Maia, they tried to combine heavy metal with Irish / Celtic folklore . A year later, the band's first demo tape was released under the name The Last Pendragon and the group's name was changed to “Tuatha de Danann” (literally: The Children / The People of Danú), as there was already a band under the Name "Pendragon". In addition, Bruno Maia was very interested in the legend of the ancient Celtic family of gods Tuatha de Danann and was fascinated by the stories.

Two more years later, the next demo appeared under the name Faeryage . The reviews finally brought the band a contract with the Brazilian label Heavy Metal Rock , where in 1999 the first official CD demo entitled Tuatha de Danann was released.

In 2001 the first official album called Tingaralatingadun , which continued the style of the band, was released, this time also in Europe and Russia . The following year brought the successor in the EP The Delirium Has Just Began ... out. For the next album Trova di Danú , which was released in 2004, a contract was signed with Paradoxx Music (also Brazil).

In July / August 2005 a European tour finally took place, which took the band through France (12 appearances) and Germany (3 appearances) - where they u. a. also played at the Wacken Open Air 2005 and won the Special Price International - led.

In 2009 the live DVD Acoustic Live was released . The band wanted to split up in 2012 after front man Bruno Maia had already left in 2010, but only one year later they revised this decision and returned with Bruno Maia and Edgard Britto on keyboards. In June 2015 a new studio album was released after 11 years with the title Dawn of the New Sun , on which Martin Walkyier (ex- Skyclad ) and Khadhu Capanema (Kernunna) each have a guest appearance as singer.
