The Tuffbach , also known locally as Weißbach (eastern Weiherburggraben), rises below the Lepsius tunnel at what is now the Innsbruck Alpine Zoo at 720 m above sea level, and flows south past the Engländergrab to the Hohen Weg and joins the near the old Hungerburgbahn bridge at the Hans-Psenner-Steg Inn . It lies entirely in the Innsbruck city area and marks the Hötting - Mühlau (Innsbruck) district boundary .
Although the stream is only 500 m long, it has a large catchment area, as almost the entire eastern Hungerburg plateau drains here, up to the Seegrube and the Seegrubenspitze and Hafelekarspitze . The Hungerburg earned its name because this limestone area is extremely arid. The brook itself rises at the bank from Höttinger breccia , which gives the old field name Auf den Grauer Stein . The brook name indicates the resulting tufa .
It also has an interesting spot: in front of the Hohen Weg (house numbers 12 and 13) the water plunges 12 meters into the depths and forms the Weißbachfall , which you can hear and see rustling from the street. To protect against flooding, the catch basin is concreted to prevent the stream from overflowing.
The water is usually grade I - II.
