Sugar factory and memorial

Tully is a place in the Australian state of Queensland .

location

Tully is located near the Australian east coast between Innisfail in the north and Ingham in the south. Not far from the town, the Tully River flows into the Coral Sea to the southeast , and the village of Mission Beach to the northeast . From Tully you can reach the nearby national parks Tully-Gorge and Tully-Falls .

economy

Tully is one of the major cities in the Cassowary Coast region. The economic basis of the region is agriculture, with sugar cane and banana cultivation dominating. The sugar cane grown is processed as raw sugar in the sugar factory. In front of the sugar factory in the center of town, a memorial illustrates how sugar cane used to be transported by horse and cart. An extensive narrow-gauge railway network still enables the enormous and efficient transport of sugar cane today. Over 9 locomotives are in use during the day.

climate

In Tully, which is considered to be the rainiest place in Australia, the northern Australian monsoons determine the weather. This puts the place in the danger zone for tropical cyclones . On the night of February 2nd to 3rd, 2011, the center of cyclone Yasi hit land near Mission Beach and also caused great damage in Tully. Along with Cardwell to the south, Tully was one of the hardest hit areas.

traffic

Tully is on the Brisbane to Cairns railway line , on which the Spirit of Queensland train runs in both directions five times a week and also stops in Tully.
