Tunnelvision ( proper spelling TunnelVision ) is a Finnish power and progressive metal band from Helsinki , which was founded in 1995.

history

The band was formed in 1995. After several casting problems, the group consisted of the singer Marko Waara, the guitarist Juhani Malmberg, the keyboardist Vili Ollila, the bassist Louri Porra and the drummer Mirka Rantanen in the late 1990s. The latter was the only remaining founding member. All members have studied at conservatories . In November 1999 the debut album While the World Awaits was released via RectAngluar , which contains extremely different compositions, as the individual musical backgrounds are very different and the pieces were created over the entire period of existence of the band. In August 2002, Tomorrow joined via Massacre Records .

style

According to b_olariu (Bogdan) from progarchives.com , the band's intention from the beginning was to combine traditional progressive rock in the style of Yes , Genesis and partly Rush with modern progressive metal like Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery would play. The group is comparable to bands like Dream Theater, Pagan's Mind and occasionally Iron Maiden . Frank Albrecht from Rock Hard described the music of While the World Awaits as original melodic metal . The group connect while "the classic Rainbow - Hard Rock School with power chords brand Soundgarden , the attention to detail of Dream Theater and the catchiness of some melodic sizes from the eighties". He also emphasized the high level of playing on the instruments, whereby he was particularly impressed by the keyboard sounds. In a later edition Albrecht stated that the group had tightened their songwriting on Tomorrow and are now going to work less "ornate", although the members would still play at a technically high level. He now called the music a mixture of power and progressive metal, with a stronger focus on the former genre. The album is therefore suitable for fans of Vanden Plas , Evergrey , Poverty's No Crime , Tad Morose or Dream Theater. Detlef Dengler from Metal Hammer described the music as progressive metal that processed influences from Yes, UK , Genesis, Dream Theater, Dio and Iron Maiden. In an interview with him, Marko Waara stated that with Tomorrow the band tried to sound less progressive, in contrast to their debut album. In the future they want to try to sound even more catchy. Dengler Tomorrow had reviewed an issue earlier : The music requires attention in order to recognize the various facets and details, but the songs lack catchiness and structure. He also emphasized that it was difficult to combine the influences Yes, UK and Genesis as well as Iron Maiden and Dio equally.
