Turmero is a city in the state of Aragua in the north of the South American country Venezuela .
The city has about 52,000 inhabitants, was founded in 1620 and is the capital of the district ( municipality ) Santiago Mariño .

The city is 40 km south of the Caribbean coast , 20 km east of Lake Valencia . Maracay is 10 km to the west .
