Gameplay
General
Twisted Metal combines the principles of a racing game with those of a third-person shooter . The player controls a vehicle in a cordoned off area and tries to destroy enemy vehicles there. By default, all vehicles are armed with machine guns with infinite ammunition. In addition, some game modes were implemented that are based on conventional circuit races.
Race course
At the beginning of a race, the participating vehicles are placed at random starting positions on the map at a certain minimum distance from one another. Then the start takes place and the vehicles taking part in the race are allowed to drive freely around the area and hunt down their opponents.
Since the machine guns do little damage to enemy vehicles, drivers have to rely on finding more powerful weapons against the enemy. These are distributed in several places along the route and can be collected by any driver. These additional weapons include a. Grenades , napalm and explosives . Each vehicle also has an individual weapon, the stock of which regenerates automatically over time. In addition, various repair kits are distributed on the combat area, which are used to repair damage.
