Tyler Higbee (* 1. January 1993 in Clearwater , Florida ) is an American American football player at the position of the tight ends . He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and previously played college football at Western Kentucky University (WKU).

Early years and college

Higbee played football and baseball at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs , Florida. In his senior year he was named the most valuable player ( MVP ) and team captain of his team as a wide receiver and earned various awards. At Western Kentucky University, 38 pass catches for 536 yards and 8 touchdowns earned him a place on the prestigious Biletnikoff Watch List . Due to his versatility as a blocker and pass recipient, he was considered one of the most promising tight ends in the 2016 draft year.

NFL

The LA Rams selected Higbee in the fourth round of the 2016 draft as the 110th player overall. On June 9, 2016, he signed a four-year contract for $ 2.9 million. He played his first game for the Rams on September 12, 2016, since then he has been involved in all games ( regular season and play-off ), and has been a regular starter since the 2017 season . His first touchdown in an otherwise unsuccessful Rams season, which should ultimately lead to the dismissal of head coach Jeff Fischer in week 14 with a 4: 9 balance, he scored on December 24, 2016 against the San Francisco 49ers . Also in the 2018 season he played all regular season games as a starter.

Private life

In April 2016, just before the draft, Higbee was caught in a brawl. Charges were brought against him for consuming alcohol in public places, assaulting himself and trying to escape from the police. Higbee escaped jail time by admitting guilt and was sentenced to pay victim compensation, community service, and other obligations.
