History and sights

In the early 18th century, the Dimsdale estate , later Tankart , was two of the island's early settler families. Captain Richard Tyrell, Commander in Chief of the English Harbor Dockyard in 1766 , bought the property and the location has been named that way ever since.

There are two churches in Tyrells , the Tyrells Baptist Church , a large modernist building erected in 1992 towards Liberta, and the Catholic Church Out Lady of Perpetual Help , which is located far on the hill . The latter was built in 1832 and has been an independent parish since 1958, the second Catholic parish on the island alongside St. John's Cathedral . The Catholic parish Tyrell include the chapel communities Willikies and Sea View Farm.
