The United Nations Support Mission in Haiti (German United Nations Support Mission for Haiti , UNSMIH ) was based on UN Resolution 1063 of June 28, 1996 and replaced the United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH). It took place from July 1996 to July 1997 instead and had the goal of building a new police force in Haiti continues to advance, the later with the United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti (ger .: United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti has been formed, short UNTMIH) .

In the headquarters at UNSMIH in Port-au-Prince were Enrique ter Horst of Venezuela in his capacity as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of Mission for the leadership of the Armed Forces Brigadier General J.RP Daigle of Canada and for the police official component Colonel Robert Pigeyre from France to Page. UNSMIH's staff were provided by Algeria , Bangladesh , Benin , Djibouti , France, India , Canada, Mali , Pakistan , Russia , Togo , Trinidad and Tobago and the United States .

A civilian police officer from the UNSMIH force was killed during the mission.
