history
The ship was laid down on March 22, 1979 at the Marinette Marine shipyard in Marinette , Wisconsin . The launch took place on May 17, 1980, after further equipment work, the Mohawk was handed over to the Military Sealift Command of the US Navy on October 16, 1980 .
She was assigned to the US Atlantic Fleet and stationed at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek in Little Creek , Delaware .
The tug was decommissioned on August 15, 2005 and assigned to the reserve fleet.
