The USS Connecticut (SSN-22) is a nuclear-powered submarine of the Seawolf-class submarine . It was named after the US state of Connecticut , making it the first hunting submarine to be named after a state.

history

construction

The keel laying for the Connecticut took place in 1992 at Electric Boat , the launch only five years later, the ship being christened by Patricia L. Rowland , the wife of the then Senator of Connecticut, John G. Rowland . The commissioning took place on December 11, 1998.

Rides

In April 2003, appeared Connecticut by Arctic ice at the Applied Physics Laboratory Ice Station of the University of Washington , where images have been known as a polar bear examined the astern stabilizer. The rudder was slightly damaged.

In March 2004, Connecticut sailed with an Expeditionary Strike Group to support the USS Wasp (LHD-1) in the war on terrorism . In addition to the Wasp and other transport ships, the cruisers USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) and USS Yorktown (CG 48) and the destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) participated in the combat group. On September 2, the boat returned to Naval Submarine Base New London .

In July 2007 the boat left New London for another mission and took part in exercise ANNUALEX 19G with the Japanese Navy in November . After the voyage, the Connecticut was stationed in Naval Base Kitsap , Washington . From there she also took part in ANNUALEX 21G 2009. In March 2011, Connecticut began a warfare exercise in Arctic waters together with the USS New Hampshire (SSN-778) , ICEX .
