history

The stone was laid on June 1, 1970 at Lockheed Shipbuilding in Seattle , Washington . After the ship was christened, the ship was launched on December 19, 1970, and commissioning took place on January 8, 1972. In April 1973, after further equipment and tests, the first mission in the Pacific began, followed by eight more. The Stein was part of the US fleet during the hostage-taking of Tehran and was used several times in the Gulf region during the Iran-Iraq war . In 1987 the frigate circled the globe. During Operation Desert Storm , she was also part of the American attack fleet. After almost 20 years of service, the ship was decommissioned on March 19, 1992 and assigned to the reserve fleet.
