Udalrich Schaufelbühl

Udalrich Josef Schaufelbühl (born October 18, 1789 in Zurzach ; † July 21, 1856 there ; entitled to live in Zurzach) was a Swiss politician and doctor . From 1832 to 1852 he was a member of the canton of Aargau , and from 1851 until his death he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of the doctor and councilor Franz Joseph Schaufelbühl also studied medicine . After that, he not only ran a doctor's practice with his father, but was also an innkeeper and pharmacist . The parents' inn "Goldner Adler" was often the scene of political, economic and cultural discussions. From 1815 Schaufelbühl was a division doctor in the Aargau Artillery, in 1820 he succeeded his father as a district doctor.

After the Freiämtersturm in December 1830, Schaufelbühl was involved in drafting a new cantonal constitution as a constitutional councilor. In 1831 he was elected to the Grand Council . The Grand Council, in turn, elected him to the cantonal government the following year. As a government councilor, he promoted the expansion of the health system. Although he was not averse to liberal ideas, his worldview was rather Catholic-conservative. In 1852 Schaufelbühl resigned as a member of the government, but remained on the Grand Council. He successfully participated in the National Council elections in 1851 and represented the Canton of Aargau in the National Council until his death . In addition to his work as a doctor, he wrote studies on medical, global political and numismatic topics.
