Ueli Maurer (cryptologist)

Ueli Maurer (bourgeois Ulrich Martin Maurer ; born May 26, 1960 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss cryptologist. He is Professor of Cryptology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich .

Maurer studied electrical engineering at the ETH Zurich and received his doctorate there in 1990 with the dissertation Provable security in cryptography . He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University until he accepted an assistant professorship for computer science at ETH Zurich in 1992. In an authoritative publication he was able to show that the Diffie-Hellman problem and the calculation of discrete logarithms are equivalent under certain conditions. From 2002 to 2008 Maurer sat on the board of directors of Tamedia AG .

Maurer is currently the editor of the Journal of Cryptology , of which he was editor-in-chief. In 2007 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
