Ulco is a South African town in the municipality of Dikgatlong , Frances Baard district in the Northern Cape Province . It is located around 40 miles northwest of Barkly West by road. In 2011 Ulco had 860 inhabitants in 288 households.

description

Ulco was founded because of extensive limestone deposits in the area and its further processing at this point. The place name is derived from the Union Lime Company , a former South African company. Ulco has no other districts. Only people who work in the local limestone and cement production live here. Some of the former residents who worked here were relocated to Longlands , which is 20 kilometers away.

economy

Limestone mining is used to produce cement. Cement production at this location is one of the most important national locations for this industry, which supplies customers in southern Africa.

traffic

Ulco can be reached by land via the R31 regional road from Kimberley (77 km) or via the R370 from Warrenton (88 km). Near the place is the Ulco station on the railway line Kimberley – Barkly West – PostmasburgSishenHotazel . There is a small airport on the southern edge of the settlement.
