Uli Gaulke

Uli Gaulke (born August 19, 1968 in Schwerin ) is a German director , author and cameraman .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1987 at the Extended Goethe High School in Schwerin and doing military service, Gaulke studied computer science and film and theater studies in Berlin from 1989 to 1995 at the Technical University of Berlin and the Free University . He also worked as a projectionist in various Berlin cinemas. After he founded the art house cinema Balasz in Berlin-Mitte in 1994 together with friends , he began studying film directing at the Konrad Wolf University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg in 1995 . With his graduation film Havanna Mi Amor , he won the German Film Prize in gold in 2001 for the best documentary film. Since then he has worked as a director, author and cameraman for cinema and television. Filming took him to North Korea, India, Burkina Faso, Cuba and the USA.
