Ulrich Bongertmann (born April 23, 1958 in Haltern ) is a German high school teacher and chairman of the Association of German History Teachers (VGD) from 2012 to 2018 .

After graduating from high school in Kleve, Bongertmann studied history, Latin and philosophy in Münster from 1979 to 1985 . Then he became a teacher in Osnabrück and Hildesheim . In 1993 he went as a specialist manager of History and Latin at the study seminar Rostock and taught at the Great City School Rostock . At the same time, he is also the subject librarian for history and Latin at the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ministry of Education with responsibility for the framework plans and teacher training . From 2012 to 2018 he was the federal chairman of the Association of History Teachers in Germany.

Bongertmann published practical and historical didactic contributions mainly on German post-war history. In it, following Christoph Kleßmann , he spoke out in favor of integrative German-German parallel history in the classroom. Bongertmann is textbook author for history books ( Epochs and Structures , That Were Times ) and editor of the magazine geschichte für heute . In 2017 and 2018, he repeatedly rejected false claims by AfD politicians that the Holocaust was an inappropriately large part of current history lessons.
